Dating as far back as ancient Greece and Rome, horse racing is an old sport that has come a long way and has a long history. While there have been dozens of horse racing events held around the world, some of them have, over time, gained more popularity, and they are respected and held in higher esteem than others – you simply can’t afford to miss them. This article aims a look at only four of those races. They include:
The Kentucky Derby
This one takes the number one sport on this list. Hosted in Louisville, Kentucky, this event pulls horse racing lovers from every corner of the world. The race takes place on the first Saturday of May every year. It is one of the highest, if not the highest, grossing event, and it gives racers the opportunity to showcase their skills and techniques on the back of the horse.
The Royal Ascot
The Royal Ascot would be number one in this list if it were not for the
Kentucky Derby. It is an opportunity for the well-to-do to show off their highly-prized thoroughbreds. The race implements a strict dress code, and it runs for four days. You can tell from its name that the race shares close links with the British Royal family.
Held in Baltimore, Maryland, the Preakness is an annual event and a fans’ favourite which takes place on the third Saturday of every May. It is Triple Crown’s second leg, and anyone who follows it knows that it is a party for many people.
The Grand National
The Grand National is what makes any list of top horse races complete. It takes place in Aintree, England. It involves jumping a total of 30 fences before completing a two-mile straightaway. Only those who can endure the gruelling nature of this race dare to compete.
